The five-seater also boasts updated technology, safety features, infotainment, all-wheel-drive and a hybrid powertrain. This new Venza is tuned to deliver a more comfortable on-road experience without the promise of off-road capability. Launched in 2009, the first iteration of the crossover targeted a very specific sweet spot empty nesters desiring minivan-like space and versatility without a need to haul kids. The Venza truly “crossed over” from the sedan to the SUV segment. It still offered two rows of seating like the Camry, but had a higher ride height and greater cargo capacity. It was more luxurious than the RAV4, but not as flashy as a Lexus RX350. In short, the Venza was a practical and reliable midsize vehicle for boomers exploring their long-awaited freedom. The “me-crossover” for the “me-generation.” But it never really hit the mark. Commercials marketing the Venza to aging boomers alienated younger buyers. While it garnered some popularity among Toyota loyalists, it faced stiff competition in the growing crossover space that included the Honda CR-V, Ford Edge and Chevrolet Equinox. Toyota’s prominent SUV offerings and entry-level luxury options from Lexus—its premium division—also diverted attention away from the crossover. Sales of the Venza declined steadily from 54,000 units in its first year to 21,000 in its final year. Toyota relented and stopped production of the Venza at its Kentucky plant in 2015. In the five years during Venza’s absence, however, consumer preference pivoted sharply from sedans to larger, more versatile SUVs. In 2019, sales of light trucks—a category that includes pickups, SUVs and crossovers—accounted for 70 percent of new vehicle sales in the according to Motor Intelligence. Sport utility vehicles alone were responsible for 68 percent of those sales. With all of its new refinements, the new Venza is angling to cast a much wider net. The Venza now sits on Toyota’s versatile TNGA-K global platform shared among the Camry, RAV4, Highlander and Sienna minivan. The new architecture enhances its on-road performance with unique suspension tuning for agility and comfort and a steel frame that reduces vibration and cabin noise. Stability and handling are improved thanks to Active Cornering Assist, a technology attached to its braking system that reduces understeering. And while the Venza comes with only AWD, it’s missing the multi-terrain drive modes available on the RAV4 or Highlander, and that’s the point. Electrification is the new normal Even with record low fuel prices, buyers still want fuel efficiency. Sales of Toyota’s hybrid powertrains have been growing steadily in crossover segments, and now account for 30 percent of RAV4 sales, and 20 percent of Highlander sales, according to the automaker. Toyota is capitalizing on this trend by offering only one powertrain option—a hybrid. Comprised of a engine, three electric motors and a new lithium-ion battery, the powertrain delivers a combined output of 219 horsepower. Toyota estimates it will achieve 40 mpg in combined highway and city driving. It also knows how to hypermile. A technology called Predictive Efficient Drive, or PED, uses the navigation system to synthesize traffic patterns and topography of frequently traveled routes to optimize battery charging. By predicting when and where the vehicle is likely to slow or stop, it automatically adjusts braking and the accelerator pedal release timing to reduce energy consumption and improve fuel efficiency. The first generation Venza didn’t get the Entune infotainment system until 2013. While the brand isn’t known for cutting edge cabin entertainment, the 2021 Toyota Venza offers occupants enough tools to stay connected on the road. Sa viabilité dans le temps, les pannes possibles, l'entretien éventuel etc...j'ai essayé les 2 véhicules 30 min chacun. J'ai trouvé curieux que le Niro démarre en thermique. Par contre, c'est vrai que ce bruit moteur du CHR, moyen moyen...J'utilise un Berlingo depuis plus de 14 ans. Un HDI 2 litres turbo ché pas quoi oui faut pas trop m'en demander, la mécanique et moi ça fait 15 au bas mot LOL. Et son principal atout ce sont ses reprises de malade! Comme disait mon garagiste quand je lui en parlais, j'avais un moteur de Porsche dans une poubelle Ayant pas du tout une conduite pépère, j'ai vraiment besoin de retrouver de la nervosité. Serais-je satisfait sur ce point là?Pendant des années, la réputation médiocre des Berlingos fait que systématiquement on m'a toujours pris pour un flan au feu rouge, et j'ai presque toujours coiffé toutes les grosses Allemandes ou autres petites golf à petit bra***urs. Pas par jeu ou autre sentiment stupide, juste parce que je suis toujours pressé et que je deviens vite de mauvaise humeur quand un boulet essaye de démarrer vite pour finalement rouler à 25 après.
